About the Organization

St. Vincent de Paul of Baton Rouge (“SVDP”) is a large, complex charitable nonprofit serving the Baton Rouge community through a wide range of programs — from feeding and sheltering the vulnerable to pharmacy, housing, and community services. Across its related entities, SVDP represents roughly $10M in annual revenue and carries the reporting complexity that comes with federal funding, multiple entities, and fund accounting.

The mission is grounded in Catholic values and a deep commitment to human dignity. Just as notable is the culture: a genuinely collaborative, mission-driven executive team with strong, established leaders across Operations, HR, and Programs — colleagues who partner well and pull in the same direction.

Why This Role Is Worth a Look

This is not a maintain-the-status-quo CFO seat. SVDP is investing in the future of its finance function. The incoming CFO will partner with a fractional CFO to lead a meaningful evaluation of the entire finance operation, and will help select and implement a modern accounting system — shaping the tools, workflows, and reporting the organization will rely on for years.

It is a rare chance to combine hands-on ownership with real strategic influence: a seat at the executive table, the CEO’s and Board’s ear on financial strategy, and the mandate to modernize how a beloved organization runs its finances.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Finance & Modernization

  • Serve as the organization’s strategic financial advisor to the CEO and Board — budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and long-range program sustainability.
  • Co-lead, with a fractional CFO, a full evaluation of the finance function and the selection and implementation of a new accounting system.
  • Champion change — bringing modern accounting practices, tools, and process discipline to a team ready to grow.

Accounting Operations & Compliance

  • Own day-to-day accounting across all entities — close, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll, and journal entries — supported by one direct report.
  • Ensure timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings and GAAP / fund-accounting compliance.
  • Coordinate the annual audit, 990 filings, 1099s, grant financial compliance, and SVDP National reporting.

Leadership & Partnership

  • Prepare and present financial statements and insight for leadership and the Board.
  • Partner across Operations, HR, Development, and Programs to support strategic initiatives with financial guidance.

The Profile

We’re open to more than one kind of background. A sitting nonprofit CFO is welcome — and so is a high-potential finance leader ready to step up, provided they bring demonstrated strategic finance and accounting depth (ideally including nonprofit) and real comfort operating as a hands-on “one-stop shop.”
